Character Interview – David Masters

This interview feels timely these days. It was written in 2009 to help me better understand one of the main characters in my novel – Wireless.

In the book, Wireless, David Masters arrives as someone with an unestablished past. What the reader knows is that Masters has started a foundation called the Ultraist Group that seeks to bring about social reform and justice. That foundation is growing at an alarming rate for “the powers that be”. Christians and to some extent Muslims have opposed and attacked him and his foundation. I needed to understand Masters better as a character so I interviewed him similar to the way a journalist might interview someone like Bill Gates. I must emphasize that this is a work of fiction and in no way represents my own current beliefs. By no means do I want to be an L. Ron Hubbard type although I also created a manifesto written by Masters to better understand this character and his foundation. What is written in this interview and that manifesto are pure bunk and poppycock from my perspective. For example, I do not believe humans were “created”. I present here, the unedited interview between me and my character, David Masters.

Interviewer: You and the Ultraist Group have set out a plan for social, economic, and political reform that is quite amazing. Why hasn’t the Ultraist Group affiliated with a political party or attempted to start a viable alternative party?

DM: We aren’t political. We’re a spiritual movement. A politician is a politician is a politician. Once you’ve bought into that realm, you’re part of that realm and there is nothing you can do to escape it. We’re a spiritual movement of people that transcends the boundaries of politics.

We understand that where we really need to be is in an evolved society that no longer needs politics. We will always need representatives but those representatives should serve their constituency. They should seek to do the will and the bidding of their people; to do what is in the best interest of people globally. The Ultraist Group seeks to create that environment through non-violent means.

Interviewer: Dr. Masters, Why do you think the Evangelicals, Catholics, and other Christian sects are so antagonistic toward you and the Ultraist Group?

DM: I don’t really know. TUG, as we like to call The Ultraist Group, is essentially a group of people expressing human spirituality in meaningful ways. Maybe the church’s antagonism springs from the fact that we are doing what they have had years of opportunity to do and have never done. For example, our food banks, free clinics, and life crisis centers provide opportunities to serve and be served. They are vehicles that give us the privilege of doing acts of love and service as an expression of spirituality not as a means of grace. We are after all, essentially spiritual beings.

Possibly the Church is begrudging people access to that type of experience without religious baggage. I’m not sure; but it was never my intent to be at odds with the church. Christians seem to think that TUG is some sort of works-based religion. This misconception stems from their difficulty in relating to anything spiritual properly; they relate spiritual things to religion. They have trouble understanding that we aren’t doing things to achieve rightness or acceptance with some divine being. We are doing acts of love and service because it is who we are intended to be.

We are seeking to attune ourselves closer and closer to the divine energy that is flowing through all of creation. In this way, we are reaching out more and more to realize the potential that our divine creator intended. We are seeking to touch the divine and resonate with it. That resonance will cause us to draw closer and closer to the likeness of our creator until the moment of contact when we will be transformed and transcend as a race.

This is what Jesus pointed toward; so I’m not sure why the Church is so antagonistic. Maybe they’re worried that TUG will destroy their religious hold over people.

Interviewer: Do you call yourself a Christian?

DM: Like Gandhi, I appreciate the teachings of Christ as presented in the sermon on the mount, but I am not a Christian. We are all children or offspring of divine universal energy reaching out to attune ourselves to the divine as perfectly as possible. It is my belief that when we have evolved enough as a race, the divine will intervene and enable us to make the next step in our evolutionary process.

Our job or mission is to establish heaven on earth.

[Author’s Note: It is my opinion that religion, all religion, is nothing more than a primitive form of science fiction.]

Interviewer: Why do you so often refer to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution in your talks?

DM: The Founding Fathers worded the Declaration of Independence with the future in mind. They knew that at some point in the future their fledgling government would go through a metamorphosis and become the very evil that they were resisting. Their wording actually challenges patriots within our country to rise up against the very government they were founding if that government were to become corrupt. They knew that until human nature changes, any government can become corrupt and begin to oppress the masses.

The framers of the constitution did the same thing with the Bill of Rights. The Founders instituted it to protect the people from the government.

Interviewer: Can you explain what you mean by the metaphysics of equality?

DM: Humans are created in the divine image; we have the innate ability to create. We manifest what we truly focus on. By observing a person’s life we can postulate their thoughts. What are they creating from a physical or an energy perspective – is it negative or positive? Our inventions, art, or relationships reflect our focus. It is amazing that we do not embrace this wonderful gift and try to discipline our use of it in the world.

We suffer because of the coping mechanisms that we developed growing up, the dysfunctional actions and behaviors that determine what we focus on. If I’m a negative person with negative feelings and concerns, then that is what I begin to manifest in my realm. Many people focus on what they don’t want as opposed to what they do want. Through focusing on it, they actually create what they don’t want. If they would focus on what they want, then they would actually be manifesting their hopes and dreams.

As I said, this ability to manifest is a gift from our divine creator. We all possess it. Yet it runs amuck because we do not recognize it.

How does this work?

The brain is an organ; it is a very complex organ but an organ none-the-less. It has many characteristics and capabilities. One of those characteristics is to initiate, create, or manifest things in our sphere of influence. I believe the brain is a field generator. It’s primary function is to create our reality. The brain takes our focus and begins to make it happen. Unfortunately, it doesn’t differentiate between a good thing and a bad thing. It simply responds to our focus. This is why we need to learn to focus on what we want, on the positive.

Humans have come to believe that our brain is who we are. That is incorrect thinking. Who I am is my consciousness, or id; call it what you will but it is not physical. It is spiritual or energy. My memories do not need to dwell within my brain. Memories are part of my energy that I carry in my eternal essence. This is metaphysics. The metaphysical philosophy is not anti-religious even though Christianity, Islam, and other religions are against metaphysical concepts. Metaphysics is exercising and cooperating with an innate god-given ability. Our brain is a tool for expressing who we are through creation.

The metaphysics of equality tell us not to focus on the negative. That is, don’t focus on stopping injustice or inequality. Focus on the positive; creating justice and equality. In this way, your brain begins to manifest you in your realm as positive energy that is exuding justice and equality to everyone who enters your sphere of influence.

Consciousness is the key to everything. Aligning yourself with the divine heightens consciousness clarifying what is right and good. We need to become experts at consciously manifesting the positive. A person who is attuned to the divine universal energy cannot manifest negative things in their life.

The real point of the whole thing is to become a more conscious or thinking human being. As we live in that conscious realm, we are expressing our true human nature. We are setting the stage to express our genius. We are setting the stage to express human dignity and to move toward that collective conscious that is humankind. In this way we will evolve and create a world of justice and equality.

If you are not tuned to the universe, to the one energy, then you are at opposition with everything. This is why most people are struggling – they are resisting rather than attuning. Instead of being attuned to everything, they are opposed to everything – even themselves.

Jesus said don’t worry about tomorrow because you can’t change tomorrow but you can harmonize with what is happening around you. If I flow along with the divine in the world, I will be all right. This alignment and flow represents the metaphysics of equality.

Interviewer: Dr. Masters, can you explain a little about your views on coping mechanisms and dysfunctional behavior?

DM: Trauma is a strange element in human life. When a person who is still in the developmental stages of life experiences trauma they often shut down and stop growing from a mental or emotional perspective. In essence they become stuck at that age, cutoff from reaching their full potential. They typically use numerous coping mechanisms to make life bearable.

People try to manipulate their intimate world. They want to feel a certain way and they are uncomfortable when they don’t feel “normal”. So they try to structure their world so that it gives them the feelings that bring them comfort. This is coping. People are meant to live fully, not to simply cope. Coping is dysfunctional behavior.

The coping mechanisms that we develop to get along in life and feel secure and happy are significant for a normal person. For a person who has experienced trauma or hasn’t had a good life, those coping mechanisms can be very well entrenched and can be very destructive and counterproductive to relationships.

A person needs to understand their coping mechanisms in order to maintain good mental health. They need to explore and understand them. Then as situations arise that make them feel uncomfortable they will be able to recognize their negative patterns. Once they can see those behavioral patterns they are armed to say “I’m not going to act that way anymore. I’m not going to react that way anymore. I’m not going to cope by doing what I have in the past to get by in this situation. I’m going to stand up and I’m going to be an adult and I’m going to live up to my full human potential and manifest my human dignity in this situation. I’m going to do what is truly right.”

Our dysfunctional behavior patterns fall away the more we become attuned with the divine. People need to realize that they don’t need to control the world. I can’t control the things that are coming at me whether they are good, bad or indifferent. But I can realize that I don’t need to control that world because I can control myself. When I am centered, external things cannot throw me off balance.

Through attuning to the divine we allow peace and joy to be created within us. As we create these within ourselves in greater measure; we become full. At that point peace and joy begin to overflow spilling out of these physical containers. We are genuinely creating peace and joy in our world and it impacts others. The divine spirit is touching everyone around me. Regardless of theological backgrounds, the concept is the same. I need to be filled with positive divine energy to the point where it overflows and I am literally pouring out the divine energy to everyone with whom I come in contact.

As you attune to the divine, you change. Things around you aren’t changing; you change. As you change your positive energy starts to flow out of you and affect everything around you.

Interviewer: Dr. Masters you have repeatedly referred to the United States as an empire. Can you explain what you mean by that and what problems you see in it?

DM: We are not simply an empire. We are a nation of empire builders.

The American public has allowed itself to believe that we are not a world empire but that’s not true. Over the past century we have developed into a global empire that does as it pleases. By the Reagan era we had blossomed fully. Replacing governments in small Caribbean nations was only the beginning; the fall of the Soviet empire opened the way for true global domination. Now we move freely around the world taking out governments and replacing them with pro-American regimes and all in the name of democracy. Panama, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, and Iraq are only a few of the news worthy examples.

[Author’s Note: this was written circa 2009 so it doesn’t take into account events after that time. E.g., Ben Laden was still alive.]

Why do you think other countries refer to us as the Great Satan or white devils? We do as we please and restrict others as we please.

During the nineteenth century, we foiled Japan’s imperial aspirations simply by not supporting them. Through their military might and location, they seized Russian lands and claimed them as their right as the imperialistic spoils of power. Russia was unhappy, but simply asked Japan to return the territory before things became ugly. Japan appealed to the U.S. and Great Britain, two of the world’s imperialistic superpowers. The grounds of their appeal; the superior opponent in a war should receive the spoils of war. They had done nothing that America and England had not done. They had picked a fight with an inferior opponent, out maneuvered, and out fought him. Now they should be able to add those lands to their empire. Britain and the U.S. declined to support the Japanese. In the end, they were forced to return the islands to Russian.

You say, “Can’t you give a more recent example?”

Wasn’t Saddam Hussein’s argument very similar during the invasion of Kuwait? The weak succumb to the powerful. Our argument against him was to say, “It’s not right, and you can’t do it.” That is our argument until we’re doing the same thing, then it’s fine.

We have deposed and installed governments at will over the last one hundred fifty years. In fact, from the beginning this has been the nature of the U.S. – the usurper. God have mercy on Native Americans for what they have suffered since the arrival of civilized men.

We ran over the Native Americans; we took all that we wanted from Mexico. Yet we wonder why other non-western cultures & societies look at us as the Great Satan? It amazes me.

Again, around the turn of the twentieth century Japan did a masterful sneak attack on Australia that was completely successful. When asked about it, Teddy Roosevelt could only praise the brilliance and execution of the Japanese plan. Nevertheless, when they did the same to the U.S. forty years later the response of one of his successors was considerably different.

Part of the reason Americans cannot see themselves as an empire is the perceived lack of continuity of leadership in our government. We believe that our structure of democracy protects us from the tyranny of a dictator or an emperor. In reality, we do have continuity of leadership; even generational continuity. The wealthy powerbrokers that control the money and media have long set the direction and actions of America. If you want to know who has been running the country look for old money. Look for the families who grew wealthy stealing from Native Americans, overpowering Mexico, and “industrializing” their way to wealth and power. These days they stay out of public view much like the Supreme Court. Like the Supreme Court, they are a branch of government – the ruling branch.

Through wealth and the media, they control the election outcomes; they control the public agenda; they control legislation through the other three branches of government; and they ensure that he who has the most money always wins in court.

Who heads this shadow branch of government? Who is our Emperor? The names are unknown. Nevertheless, it is clear that politics shields them from the public view; the media does their bidding and presents their agenda in the public forum; and that the ‘law’ is their ‘police force’ holding the public in check. They allow just enough descent to create the illusion of freedom.

The only wildcard in the equation is the religious sector. From time to time, throughout the centuries, religious institutions have grown quite powerful even to the point of manipulating governments. In fact, throughout history these powerbrokers have considered the religious sector to be the enemy. They fear all religious based governments because religion has power over the masses.

Interviewer: Can you say a little about the social organizations that the Ultraist Group has founded.

DM: Ultraist Group life crisis centers provide counseling, help, and support to those who suffer from depression, suicidal thoughts, unwanted pregnancy, bankruptcy, or divorce. They treat as many maladies as you can think of. The centers are staffed with full-time people who are psychologists, psychiatrists, MD’s, nurses, and other healthcare professionals all paid by TUG to serve their communities in these centers. The service is free to all who qualify, which would be the working poor and others who find themselves unable to help themselves. The centers operate on a finite number of resources. If people will join with TUG, we can expand the services and the service areas. People need to share their wealth with one another in order that “he who gathers much will have no excess, and he who gathers little will not lack; every man will gather as much as he needs.”

The Ultraist Group food banks are very similarly staffed with professionals who are making sure that the people who don’t have enough to eat can get a square meal without attachments. In other words, it’s our spiritual obligation to our fellow man; not that he believes the way we believe but that he can eat and have what he needs to raise himself up from where he is. The food banks also exist for stockpiling food so that during the nationwide strike the less privileged will have enough to eat.

In addition to those capabilities, the life crisis center deals with homelessness. TUG provides a multitude of educational opportunities believing that education is truly the key to humankind reaching its potential.

We do encourage people who have been helped to join in the movement to help others. We have community centers as well, where we welcome young people. We make available classes that teach how spirituality can help you evolve as a person. There are also opportunities to have fun in a clean, safe environment where no one is going to try to take advantage of you.

For the record, I want to say that the Ultraist Group refuses to take a stand on the issues that tend to divide humanity. We would say, as much as it sounds like a contradiction, we are pro-life and pro-choice at the same time. We do not find them mutually exclusive because people have to find their own way. We have to accept one another as we are finding our way. Rather than draw artificial lines that separate; we choose to create an atmosphere of acceptance for all.

TUG makes every effort to provide an array of services for the under privileged of our society. That is for those who are not equal and do not have equal opportunities. We try to level the playing field and create equality through these services.

TUG also provides a little known but very important service to individuals and communities. In various areas of the United States, we go out among the less fortunate of our society. In a covert way, we look for those who want to better themselves but do not have the means. We look for opportunities to help people help themselves. It’s not a free handout. We are looking for people who are interested in leaving a lifestyle in which they are trapped due to lack of funds and lack of means. For example, we go out among sex workers talking to them about their human potential. If they are interested, we leave them with a business card with a number on it. If they call that number, we tell them that they have an appointment with the dentist to get their teeth fixed. If they keep that appointment then we go ahead and make an appointment for them to go see a doctor. If they keep that appointment we go ahead and make another appointment to get them into a job counselor who doesn’t just do job counseling but also does educational counseling. It’s just giving them the opportunity to take steps that they might never have the ability to make. In the process of them doing this we provide them with the opportunity to make a break with a lifestyle that isn’t conducive to them achieving their full human potential. This is just one of the things that we do that is little known but is, we believe, a great service; not just to individuals but to communities and to the human race.

Interviewer: Dr. Masters, you talk a lot about movements. Tell us what you believe are the hallmarks of a valuable societal movement.

DM: Compassion, mercy, blind justice, unwavering commitment, and pacifism are the keys to a successful society. Above all of these is attuning to the divine. That alone will enable us to overcome all obstacles and realize our full potential.

I’m not the first to be saying the things that I espouse. I’m just the latest in a string of people. Granted we all have different insights into the message and help it to evolve. We all have different ways of expressing it. But this is not a new thing; human history is full of prophets pointing us toward our divine origins. The names change, the faces change, but the ideals march onward. From the dawn of time, we have known that we are supposed to attune to the creator. The Ultraist Movement isn’t new; it has been happening for generations.

If this movement is going to kick-in and take hold, it has to get to the point where average people are willing to live in reality. People need to feel that their cause is worthy of them.

This is how it was during the equal rights movement of the 1950’s and 60’s; the anti-war movement of the late 1960’s in America. Gandhi led a movement that changed his world. As you can see, the clear common denominator of a true movement seems to be an unwavering commitment, regardless of the cost.

The type of energy that we emit is very important. Energy begets energy. If I am emitting negative energy then those around me are going to notice and become negative in some way. That energy can manifest itself in different ways. Some will withdraw while others may become aggressive. If I am positive then those around me will become positive. Moderation acts the same way. As I moderate my behavior, the negative behaviors will drop away because the moderation moves me closer to my humanness. As my humanness takes hold and I become more balanced, then my moderation shifts closer and closer to the center.

Interviewer: Explain your concept of human evolution.

DM: It’s a movement that has existed since creation. We were created with the intention of evolving to where the divine steps in and helps us to make the evolutionary leap realizing our divine potential. It is not an experiment. We are being ushered through a growth process. Now we are on the verge of that leap and we need to work at it. Jesus was one who believed so strongly in the movement that he initiated, that he died. Indeed many of his followers, the Apostles, were willing to die for his movement. Unfortunately, the Church institutionalized and marginalized that movement several hundred years after Christ died.

Interviewer: If you believe in human evolution, then why don’t you believe in evolution of various species?

DM: Well that’s a relatively simple answer. If the second law of thermodynamics is true then physical things are giving off energy, losing energy. Physical things are winding down. As the universe is expanding, it is losing or running out of energy. It is not picking up or gaining energy. It is winding down. It’s not possible given that scenario for physical things to be evolving into completely new, much more complex entities or organisms. That line of thought is illogical. Physical things devolve because they are subject to the laws of nature. I believe that this is the strongest proof that we are a created race not a physically evolved race.

Human evolution occurs outside of the physical realm. The laws of physical nature that apply to energy do not apply to human evolution. We are experiencing a spiritual and social evolution. It is not a physical or bodily evolution; it is not genetic. I apply the second law of thermodynamics across the board in the physical realm and conclude that evolution of species is impossible because that would go against the laws of physics.

Human evolution is all about the spiritual and social evolution of humankind, which is how Einstein saw it as well. He wrote a little known article on socialism for the inauguration of the Atlantic Monthly Journal. In that article, he drops the seeds of his own ideas about human evolution. It is well worth reading.

Interviewer: Dr. Masters, what do you say about the charge of hypocrisy that some have leveled at you?

DM: All of us have moments of which we are not proud. No one is perfect. I have done things, frankly, of which I am ashamed. However, if I allow that to hold me back from doing the good that I see needs to be done then I am no better than a criminal. In fact, if I do that I am worse than a criminal.

Sometimes we look at a person and say, “How can you hold to these ideals or espouse this ideology, theology, or philosophy when you can’t live up to it?” People call you a hypocrite. It is not hypocrisy to strive for something better than you, beyond your current capability. It is not hypocrisy to challenge yourself and humankind to reach out for ideals even though you may not be able to embody or live out those ideals perfectly.

I think that is the message of Jesus. You can tie whatever theology or philosophy you like to Jesus. Jesus was attuned to the divine so tightly that he embodied all that humankind could become. Jesus represents our potential in every way. He shows us the way to reach out toward that potential.

Whether we can do something perfectly or not isn’t the issue. Do we even try is the issue. Trying and failing is definitely better than not trying at all when it comes to your ideology and faith. If you do not try at all you have no faith or ideals.

Interviewer: Dr. Masters please address the issue of illegal immigration within the United States.

DM: The word “politics” sums up our current problem. If we would only begin to frame this issue in the context of human rights, we would begin to see things more clearly. It would not make certain decisions any easier but it would definitely clear away the unimportant factors.

It is an outrage that American business people are oppressing and taking advantage of illegal aliens. Underpaid and over worked, these people are happy to get the little that we give them. They earn more in a few hours here than they could in a week at home. Unfortunately, their living conditions are substandard as is there opportunity for education and advancement.

The human rights issues are just as bad if not worse for them in their home country. Poor sanitation, lack of necessities, and little or no opportunity for education and advancement are their lot at home as well.

You have the fact that many people are patiently waiting in line for an opportunity to come to America believing that it is the land of opportunity. Should we grant eleven million people amnesty and the right to stay here before those who have taken the right path get in?

Illegal immigration is a human rights issue that no one gains from except for greedy capitalists. Punish the business people who are creating the situation and the human rights issues will begin to repair themselves.

Interviewer: Why do you emphasize non-violent civil disobedience?

DM: Ultraist Group educational centers provide classes on non-violent resistance. We must stand up to the oppressors if we are to change our world. We must show them that they are not in control, the people are. That is the strength of civil resistance. In order to accomplish this, a person must attain control over his or herself in the inner being. Once you have control of yourself, you can begin to exercise that control in your realm.

Civil resistance must provoke a response. According to Gandhi, civil resistance that does not provoke a response is not effect. Beatings, imprisonment, denial of property rights, even execution are responses for which people must prepare. It is through the response that the oppressors recognize that they are no longer in control. This is a fact that generates guilt, fear, and the desire to change. The response to civil resistance is the thing that allows the oppressor to change and break the cycle of oppression. In violent revolutions, one oppressor replaces another continuing the cycle.

I know that at a certain point TUG will become so powerful that the government or the church will have to get me out of the way. Whether I end up in jail like Mandela or dead like so many others is yet to be seen. However, the movement, as long as it remains non-violent and focused on equality and justice cannot be squelched.

Interviewer: Can you describe the economic system that you foresee in an evolved society?

DM: No money

Interviewer: Dr. Masters, aren’t the theories you espouse simply communism under a new guise?

DM: Well if it weren’t for a few key issues I would have to say yes. However, when you take into account the evolutionary aspect of what I am saying the answer is no.

Interviewer: Can you explain what you mean when you say every person is a genius?

DM: Every person is a genius in someway. Maybe they are not an Einstein, but maybe they are a genius at relationships, at art, or at mechanical things. Everyone has this genius and using it will bring joy into his or her life and into other people’s lives. Part of life’s journey is finding your genius and beginning to express it. That’s what human evolution is about. It is not setting people free to do nothing. It is setting people free to find their genius and begin to express it so that our society is growing by leaps and bounds through the free expression of human capabilities at their maximum.

People with the same potential and intelligence as Einstein or Da Vinci are dying everyday in third world countries for lack of resources – food, housing, and healthcare. These geniuses aren’t just dying everyday they are languishing everyday which is maybe even worse. They aren’t able to think about their potential and reach out toward it. They languish in poverty; they languish in hunger; they languish in oppression as the very systems around them that are supposed to be democratic keep them pushed down preventing them from becoming all that they can be.

Even the mentally handicapped, as long as the handicap is not too severe, express their personal genius in some way. Think of ‘idiot savants’ or people with autism who can do amazing things. We have tried to denounce this truth for unknown reasons. What we need to do is encourage people to find their area of genius. It’s the parental responsibility to observe their child; to encourage them to try things until they find what it is that brings them great joy and to express themselves through that gift. We are so busy limiting one another that we don’t encourage someone to find their strengths and build on them.

Another problem is that we often look at weaknesses and try to overcome them. Why focus on the negative? We should be looking at strengths and encouraging people to build on them. Shouldn’t we focus on the positive utilizing our strengths and developing them depending on our fellow human beings to fill in for our weaknesses?

This is a foundational issue explaining why we need equality, why we need dignity, why we need to be set free from restrictive monetary and social systems so that we can realize our true potential; our true genius and express it for the benefit for the rest of humankind. Maybe I have to dabble in ten different careers or experiences before I find the one that is the expression of my genius. Then I begin to pursue that as my contribution to humankind and society. This idea of genius is foundational to the theory of human evolution. If it is not true, then human evolution cannot happen. However, since we are all created in the image of the divine, I believe that with the exception of the rare extreme mental handicaps our genius can become evident if we allow it.

People just need the opportunity of education of not being burdened with trying to stay alive – food, water, clothing, shelter, healthcare – all of the things that we scratch and claw to survive everyday. If we are relieved of that burden because we all pull together to meet one another’s needs, then we are free to pursue that genius and understand it and express it for the benefit of all humankind.

Interviewer: In the Ultraist Manifesto your referendum statements call for a redirection of resources in order to find alternative forms of energy by the year 2015. How is that possible given our current dependence on oil?

DM: In the late 1990’s, Sandia, Livermore Labs and Berkley Labs employed a cooperative model to create faster computer chips. In eighteen months they had accomplished all of their goals – developing processors ten times faster than anything in use today. They estimated that in a cooperative environment that crossed company and governmental boundaries there was no problem that could not be solved in eighteen to twenty-four months. That is, the problem would be solved and handed over to others who would take the working solution and figure out how to put it into production.

Why don’t we establish incentives for corporations and governments to create broad international teams of the most brilliant people in various disciplines? These teams would be able to take major steps in eighteen to twenty-four month increments. In this way we could incrementally move toward producing alternative renewable energy sources, get them into production, and create the necessary delivery infrastructure. We could focus on producing a chemical or biotechnical means of nuclear remediation for example. If we could remove harmful nuclear waste from the planet we will have bought many years of time to find other energy sources. If we could remove fluorocarbons and hydrocarbons as well as other harmful byproducts of petroleum-based fuel production we will have salvaged some part of our environmental legacy to future generations. After we tackle these pressing issues the teams could turn toward developing safe alternative forms of energy along with production and delivery systems.

Interviewer: Dr. Masters, what would you say if you could leave humanity with one phrase to inspire or encourage us to pursue our true potential?

DM: Like Jesus, I believe that once people are thinking for themselves, they will come to the right conclusions. That is, once they direct their stream of consciousness honestly, without malice or selfishness, they will come to the right conclusions. We simply need to be thinking on the right things. Therefore, I would leave them with two sentences believing that they would come to the right conclusions. “Humanity’s origins are debatable; humankind’s oneness is not. Attune to the divine and live in harmony.”

Author’s Note: For an interesting article on evolution and the missing link see the Journal Nature., February 2008. An article on bat fossils indicates that evolution has now been proven by fossil evidence. The article doesn’t state this but it is my own take away.
