We approach life in some fearless way.
But it’s a lie, we tell ourselves.
Our hearts are full of fear, worry.
Laying bare our souls, what do we see?
A vulnerable child, lost and looking for a parent.
#
Alone we enter with tears and crying.
Alone we leave without a scrap.
In between we grieve in fullness for the dying.
#
The strongest among us live in fear.
The most successful are afraid.
The important die in greed and the lust for more.
Efforts to assuage the fear, the worry.
The fear of ‘Is this all there is’ drives daily activity.
#
Alone we enter with tears and crying.
Alone we leave without a scrap.
In between we grieve in fullness for the dying.
#
The successful, more insecure than the poor,
Can tell you ‘There is no more’, nothing there in outer space,
No parent, no god, no saving grace.
We strive for money, wealth — for things galore.
But fear and worry come daily to our door.
#
Alone we enter with tears and crying.
Alone we leave without a scrap.
In between we grieve in fullness for the dying.
#
We hide our emotions in corner-less rooms.
We pile fret high against the door.
But there is no rug or barricade
To cover fear, to keep worry outside,
No gawd that makes fear nevermore.
#
Alone we enter with tears and crying.
Alone we leave without a scrap.
In between we grieve in fullness for the dying.
#
Fear, the great motivator of humankind.
We fear our origin, our destination too.
For this, I cannot look upon you in anger.
In this world, you need me; I need you.
In fear and worry we live collectively.
#
Together we live in this human family,
In our wake a trail of memories.
The meaning of life is fullness in the In-between.
